Peace and Conflict: Reflections on World Peace in the City of Peace
Saturday, November 26 at 4:30 PM in the Papal Hall of the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi will host the presentation of the theme: "Peace: Means or End? The Process of Reconciliation: Failure and Success", in preparation for the keynote address that the President of the Republic of Colombia and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Juan Manuel Santos, will give at the Sacred Convent of Assisi December 17, 2016.
The November event will address the issues of peace and conflict in the world since the peace talks between the FARC and the Colombian government. What does 'peace' means today? Is peace still a value or only a fallback when the enemy cannot be defeated? When and with whom can one make peace? What is a peace treaty and its conditions? These are some of the issues that will be discussed.
After the welcome of the Custos of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, Father Mauro Gambetti, there will be presentations by
- the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia,
- the Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the Holy See, Guillermo Leon Escobar,
- the Founder of Emergency, Gino Strada, and
- the Director of Limes, Lucio Caracciolo.
Journalist, Massimo Giannini will moderate the event.
Free admission: subject to availability.
