Assisi celebrates 500 years of the Lutheran Reformation
Five hundred years after the Lutheran Reformation Ecumenical Franciscan International Centre Dialogue (CEFID), the Order of Friars Minor Conventual is organizing an event to commemorate the anniversary.
The event is scheduled for Saturday March 18th, beginning at 16.00 (4 pm) at the offices of CEFID at la Piazzetta Spagnoli, 1 in Assisi.
The meeting includes two parts. The first part has the purpose of studying in depth the following topics:
1. "Martin Luther and the Lutheran Reformation in Germany”. Speaker, Jens-Martin Kruse, Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rome;
2. “The Spiritual Movements of Lutherans in Finland: Historical, Theological and Ecclesiological Dimensions”. Speaker, Taneli Ala-Opas, Lutheran Pastor from Finland;
3. "Christians of the Reformation, the Franciscan Friars and the City of Assisi”. Speaker, Father Sylvester Bejan, General Delegate for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the OFM, Conv. and Director of CEFID.
A ‘moment’ for discussion will follow at 17:30 (5:30 p.m.). Moderator, Anna Rita Callaghan, Professor of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue at the Theological Institute of Assisi and Chairman of the Board of Ecumenical Christian Churches in Perugia.
The second part of the meeting will be devoted to ecumenical prayer, beginning at 18.00 (6 pm). It will be a celebration in common in order to commemorate ecumenism, presided over by Father Francesco Lenti, Rector of the post-novitiate Franciscanum and Father Antti Kruus, Lutheran minister from Finland.
