How to get to Assisi

By car
From the North:
Highway A14 Adriatic
- Exit at Cesena (150 km da Assisi), continue to Perugia (E45) and exit for Assisi at  "Assisi S. Maria degli Angeli nord".
 Highway A1 del Sole
- Exit Valdichiana and take the "Raccordo Bettolle-Perugia" to Perugia and exit for Assisi at  "Assisi S. Maria degli Angeli nord".
From the South:
Highway A14 Adriatic  
- Exit at Cesena (150 kms from Assisi), continue on to Perugia (E45) and exit for Assisi at  "Assisi S. Maria degli Angeli nord".  
- Exit Civitanova Marche and continue to Foligno - Perugia and then exit for Assisi at  "Assisi S. Maria degli Angeli nord".
Highway A1 del Sole
- Exit at Orte and continues on to Route E45 in direction of Perugia-Cesena to Perugia and then exit for Assisi at  "Assisi S. Maria degli Angeli nord".

By train
Take the Line through Florence-Terontola-Perugia-Foligno to the Assisi Station at Assisi/S. Maria of the Angels   
Local buses are available from the S.Maria degli Angeli Train Station to the Public Parking Lot of St. Giovanni Paul II which just below the Basilica.


By plane   
- from Perugia (Umbria) International Airport: "S. Francesco in Assisi" to Assisi by taxi or bus with Line 007 Umbria Mobilità  
- From " Leonardo da Vinci" International Airport (Fiumicino Rome) 235 Kms to Assisi. Daily bus connections via the Sulga Bus Line.

Once in Assisi...

If you arrive in Assisi by car or by bus the parking lot closest to the Basilica is the Parking Piazza Giovanni Paolo II (Parcheggio di Giovanni Paul II) that it is found at the bottom of the hill on which the Basilica is built. To the left is a ramp that leads to the St. Francis Door or Gate to the city. After going through the Door walk to the left to Lower Square or Plaza and Basilica of St. Francis.

If you arrive by train in Assisi there are local public transportation buses that go from the railway station to the Parking Piazza Giovanni Paolo II (Parcheggio di Giovanni Paul II) that it is found at the bottom of the hill on which the Basilica is built. To the left is a ramp that leads to the St. Francis Door or Gate to the city. After going through the Door walk to the left to Lower Square or Plaza and Basilica of St. Francis.  

The pilgrims that come in the Basilica by foot may follow one of the paths suggested the various groups that organize walking trips.
